<p>My first book, Successful Network Marketing for the 21st Century was an industry best seller for several years and helped tens of thousands of network marketers build successful businesses. However, I always felt there were some key knowledge missing from that book and so, over the last three years, I’ve been working on a new book and today I’m happy to announce that <em>The Twelve Power Secrets for Network Marketing Success</em> has been released through Unlimited Publishing. This is the best book I’ve written on network marketing, as it is packed with millions of dollars worth of ideas for building a large and lucrative network marketing business. In the following article, I’d like to give you a great overview of the book. The information in this article alone could help a fledgling or struggling network marketer turn their business into a money maker, so imagine what the book could do. <p>Here are the twelve power secrets for network marketing success:</p>
<p><strong>Power Secret One: Select the Right Company</strong></p>
<p>During my nearly 29 years of network marketing, I’ve selected the wrong company a number of times. Not that the company was bad, although there were a few that were, but rather they weren’t a good fit for me. Even if a company is growing rapidly, has an amazing product, solid compensation plan, and great marketing materials, it doesn’t mean that it’s right for everyone. The questions you have to ask are: Does the company have the same values as mine? Are they marketing in a way that is suitable to my personality? Do they offer a product or service that I can get passionate about? Is the compensation plan suited to my abilities, time commitment, and talents? Once you answer these and other questions, you will have a better feel for whether a company is right for you and although selecting the right company doesn’t guarantee success, it does drastically increase the odds. The key is to do your due diligence and make a good selection.</p>
<p><strong>Power Secret Two: Pick the Right Sponsor</strong></p>
<p>One of the biggest mistakes I see made in network marketing is picking the wrong sponsor. Typically one of two things happens. Either a person gets sponsored by a friend, family member, or associate, who doesn’t know anything more about building a successful network marketing business than they do. The second option usually happens after a bad experience with the first option and so they begin researching to find a big hitter to sponsor them. The problem with being sponsored by a big hitter is that they don’t always have time to work closely with new people. After all they probably have thousands of people in their network, all needing some level of attention. The key here is to be sponsored by someone who is serious about building a big business and is willing to dedicate the time to help you succeed. It’s also important that your sponsor have similar values and be someone you would enjoy working with very closely. Again, picking the right sponsor doesn’t guarantee success, but it sure helps.</p>
<p><strong>Power Secret Three: Develop Purpose, Goals, and Objectives</strong></p>
<p>Over the years I’ve trained and coached tens of thousands of network marketers and have found that most don’t really know why they are in business. It’s critical to long-term success to have a solid “why” or purpose for being in business. It might be to have more time freedom to enjoy your family or to secure your financial future, so you can give your time to ministry or charity work. It might be to become the largest contributor to a charity or ministry. Whatever your purpose, it needs to be vibrant enough to keep you going during the tough times. Once you have a solid purpose, then you must determine what needs to happen in order to achieve that purpose – these are called goals and are the stepping stones or road signs along the way toward your purpose. Goals need to be written and reviewed daily. Often goals are too big to determine what to do on a daily basis, so you should break them down into manageable activities called objectives. Start each day by reviewing your purpose, goals, and objectives, then start working on the highest priority objectives and you will quickly reach your goals and achieve your purpose.</p>
<p><strong> </strong></p>
<p><strong>Power Secret Four: Right Attitudes and Beliefs</strong></p>
<p>Many people fail in network marketing because they don’t have the right attitude. They treat their business like a hobby, working at it whenever time allows, rather than treating it like a business and scheduling regular time for business activities. I’ve also encountered many people in network marketing businesses, who show signs that they believe that what they are doing isn’t quite on the up and up, which makes it difficult for them to talk with people. It’s critical to success in network marketing to build belief in three areas: First, is believing in the network marketing industry (if you are struggling in this area, order my book <em>The Ideal Business</em>, by visiting my web site at <a href="http://www.rodnichols.com/">www.RodNichols.com</a> and clicking on Store). Second, is believing in your company and the products/services. Third, is believing in yourself as a network marketing business owner. If your belief is not strong in all three areas, success will elude you.</p>
<p><strong>Power Secret Five: Treat it Like a Business, Not a Hobby</strong></p>
<p>What does this mean? Most people who enter the network marketing industry have never run a business, so they don’t know what it means to treat it like a business. The keys are to first have the right attitude and second the right actions. Network marketing is one of the very few businesses that can be built while still employed at something else. The great part is that you keep your current income, while building another stream, which eventually will replace the first source. However, in order to do that, you must do the things that successful business people do. You must be consistent and persistent with your business and work on the most productive activities every day. Finally, you need to make a long-term commitment to your business. I have to laugh when someone says they’ll give it a try for six months or so. I’ve owned businesses, both network marketing and traditional, for many years and I’ve yet to find one that would produce a full-time income within six months, while building it on a part-time basis. Yes, some people earn big time income in network marketing within their first six months, but it’s because they put in a more than full-time effort or already had a massive circle of influence. For the average person, like me and probably you, it’s going to take some time and effort to build your business, but if you do it right for the next few years, you’ll never have to worry about money again.</p>
<p><strong>Power Secret Six: Have a M.A.P.</strong></p>
<p>If you were going to drive your car from Seattle, WA to Orlando, FL, would you just jump on the nearest highway and start driving, in hopes that some day soon you’d reach Orlando? No, that would be ludicrous and yet, that’s how most people build a network marketing business. It’s a journey and you need a M.A.P., which stands for Marketing Action Plan. This plan will guide you from where you are right now to where you want to go in life. It should include your purpose, goals, objectives, marketing strategies, and a daily plan to implement those strategies. That way, you are always on track toward your goals and purpose.</p>
<p><strong>Power Secret Seven: Become a Master Prospector</strong></p>
<p>If you were wandering through a field and stumbled across a goldmine, you would immediately buy the lot, purchase digging equipment, and begin to mine the gold. Well, you have stumbled across a goldmine and it’s in your network marketing business. The key is to prospect for the gold nuggets among your friends, family, co-workers, neighbors, congregation members, people out on the internet, and people you meet out in public. There is a direct relationship between the quantity/quality of prospecting and the amount of money you make, so become a master prospector and watch your income sky rocket.</p>
<p><strong>Power Secret Eight: Treat Different People Differently</strong></p>
<p>If you are treating everyone exactly the same, then you’re missing the boat with 75% of them. There are four basic personalities and although we operate at times in all four, every person functions primarily in one of the four. By understanding the characteristics of each personality, you can better communicate and present to prospects, plus train and support those in your network. Understanding and recognizing the different personalities will increase your sponsoring and retention ratios.</p>
<p><strong>Power Secret Nine: Become a Master Presenter</strong></p>
<p>There is an old saying that says “facts tell and stories sell.” If you want to become a successful network marketer, you must become an excellent story teller. At first, you will tell the stories of successful people in your upline and later you’ll share your own success story. People love to hear stories and will better retain the information you’re presenting. Effective story telling is one part of becoming a master presenter and by becoming one, you will move yourself into the ranks of the top performers in your company.</p>
<p><strong>Power Secret Ten: Become a Savvy Internet Marketer</strong></p>
<p>The basis of network marketing is building networks of people who buy and sell products/services. What better place to build a network of people than on a natural worldwide network called the internet? According to Internet World Stats, which you can view at www.internetworldstats.com/stats.htm, as of 2006 there were a little over one billion people on the internet worldwide and that’s up from 101 million in 1998. As you can see, the internet is growing rapidly and is the place to build a network marketing business. However, it’s easy to get lost or overwhelmed on and by the internet, so the key is to learn how to be a savvy internet network marketer. First, you want to have an effective lead capturing web site with autoresponders that follow-up on your prospects. Second, you’ll need an effective database or contact management system that helps you remember to follow-up personally with qualified prospects. Third, you want to have an excellent online presentation system including web site based presentations in flash or video and live webinars. Fourth, you’ll need to have a pass-coded training web site that takes your new associates through some basic training. From there you’ll want to learn about funded business proposals (check out my new funded business proposal system <a href="http://www.the2percentplan.com/plus">www.the2percentplan.com/plus</a>), pay-per-click advertising, and social marketing. Becoming a savvy internet marketer will add a number of effective business building weapons to your arsenal and help you build a large and lucrative business.</p>
<p><strong>Power Secret Eleven: Develop Leaders</strong></p>
<p>When I joined the industry in 1979, I was taught that if a person could fog a mirror I should attempt to sponsor them. Well, it’s one thing to sponsor a bunch of people and it’s something completely different to develop leaders. Leaders will duplicate, causing expansion of your network without any effort on your part. Leaders will attract other leaders and potential leaders, so learn how to identify and sponsor leaders, plus how to train and develop them. Once you’ve developed several organizations that have at least one leader, you will have a solid base for building a long-term walk-away residual income.</p>
<p><strong>Power Secret Twelve: The Ultimate Power Secret</strong></p>
<p>This is actually the most important of the power secrets. You can effectively use the other eleven and without the ultimate power secret you will still only enjoy marginal results. This is the difference between a double A battery and 220volts of electricity. In fact, the ultimate secret is the real power behind every success. Think about your computer. You could have the latest, greatest, and most powerful computer made by man, but if you don’t plug it into the wall and power it up, the computer is useless. Once you plug into the ultimate power source, amazing things will begin to happen – leaders will be attracted to you and your business, your marketing campaigns produce better results, and you suddenly know exactly what to say to a prospect. This is the culmination of all the power secrets for network marketing success.</p>

<p>When you spend good money for targeted MLM leads, you&#8217;d better find out what makes them tick. Talk to them, and find out what is important to them about a &#8220;work from home&#8221; opportunity. Ask the right questions, and every prospect will tell you exactly what they want.</p>
<p>You need to know the nature of your prospect with regard to MLMs &#8211; those emotional aspects that would respond best to your presentation. Become an expert on your prospect. Be a good listener. Talk to your prospects and those who know and have dealth with them. Someplace in there you&#8217;ll find the reasons that prospect will join your team.</p>
<p>What are their motivations? What exactly are they looking for in a network marketing opportunity? What are their conditions of satisfaction &#8211; what do they absolutely have to have in order for them to make this choice?</p>
<p>Find out their history. Choose from the following questions:</p>
<ol>
<li>What kind of work do you do?</li>
<li>How many hours a week do you work?</li>
<li>What do you LOVE about your job?</li>
<li>What do you HATE about your job?</li>
<li>What are you really good at?</li>
<li>What will happen if you don&#8217;t set up a strong, stable extra income?</li>
<li>What do you do with your free time?</li>
<li>What is the most fun thing you do in a normal day?</li>
<li>What would be your ideal way to make a living?</li>
<li>How do you see yourself being successful in a home business?</li>
<li>Is there any particular kind of opportunity that appeals to you most?</li>
<li>When you&#8217;re working, do you feel a need to be around people, or would you just as soon be by yourself?</li>
<li>If you had 2 months vacation and all the money you wanted, what would you do?</li>
<li>How do you like the people you work with?</li>
<li>What problem scares you to death that more money could solve?</li>
<li>If you had all the money you needed, what HUGE problem would go away?</li>
<li>When you find an opportunity that really meets your criteria, how many hours a week could you put into it?</li>
<li>If you had all the TIME in the world to do anything you wanted, what would you do?</li>
<li>Other than money, what are you looking for?</li>
<li>How does your family fit into your home business picture?</li>
<li>What do you want for your own personal growth?</li>
<li>What you want to accomplish in your lifetime?</li>
<li>What could be lurking in the background that could prevent you from following through on starting your own business?</li>
<li>What would it mean to you to help others change their lives</li>
<li>What really excites you in life?</li>
<li>What REALLY makes you angry about your life?</li>
<li>What really, really gets you emotional?</li>
</ol>
<p>You&#8217;ll never use all these questions in one conversation. But depending on how it goes, you can pick and choose different questions from this list. The longer you talk to a prospect, the more you understand which questions you really want that person to answer.</p>
<p>And the longer you talk to targeted MLM leads, the better you&#8217;ll get at building relationships with them.</p>
<p>Once you gather this information, you&#8217;ll have a sense of their emotional needs. The idea is to present to them and be able to match their nature to the nature of your team. Someplace in these emotional needs, you&#8217;ll find the prospect&#8217;s main motivation. And that will give you all the clues you need to get into your prospect&#8217;s heart and soul and convert them to a productive, successful member of your team.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Today everyone knows about the economic down-turn our nation and the rest of the world has been experiencing starting in 2008 and continuing  into 2009. Click the remote to any cable news network and the 2009 Recession dominates the news cycle. Though the current recession is now more than obvious, we are just beginning to see how widely it is impacting different groups of people.</p>
<p>I decided to write this article after hearing of a friend&#8217;s economic dilemma and how it lead to her recent entrance into the network marketing business arena. Nicole Cooper told her story of how a successful real estate business crumbled within a 6 month period due to the collapse of the housing market. As might be expected not only did her personal business crash but her personal financial situation fell right along with it.</p>
<p>In time, however, she discovered a network marketing business that appeared to offer a solution to her financial situation. By seizing the opportunity and working through the difficulties of building a new network marketing business, she mimicked the &#8220;Flight of the Phoenix&#8221; to rise from the proverbial ashes. The truly amazing part is the &#8220;comeback&#8221; happened during the time when the global economic situation slid steadily downhill.</p>
<p>Nicole used the network marketing opportunity to help elevate her family&#8217;s financial situation from a state of near desperation to one of growing prosperity. Anytime I read a story of someone&#8217;s triumph over extreme adversity, I find it both motivational and more importantly, extremely inspirational.</p>
<p>Though the inspirational moment arose instantaneously while reading her story, I also realized that with her back ground in real estate Nicole already had a mindset that served her well as she made the transition into a formal network marketing business.</p>
<p>Why would a background in real estate help in network marketing?</p>
<p>Simply because people in a real estate business are already used to employing traditional network marketing tools (warm market prospecting, cold calling, etc.) in their daily business practices. These same tools, however, fall well outside the comfort zone for most of us. Coupling her previous networking background with her business experience Nicole was well positioned to use many of the network marketing tools available and build a successful business.</p>
<p>Given the success of Nicole and others like her, many people impacted by the current economy believe network marketing should be the obvious choice when looking for alternatives to traditional employment. It is also likely that many people are drawn to these ventures due to the relatively low start-up costs associated with a network marketing business.</p>
<p>But is this a realistic answer to their problem?</p>
<p>The honest answer to that question is maybe yes; maybe no.</p>
<p>Thinking back on Nicole&#8217;s situation, though her initial financial situation may be similar to many people being impacted by the current economic upheaval; her professional background and experience are significantly different. I know from my own personal experience in previous network marketing business ventures, the lack of an appropriate background and experience often set the stage for a far less successful outcome.</p>
<p>In both of my previous endeavors, I believed in the products, opportunity, company and even that I would build a successful business. Each time, however, I ended up quitting mainly due to unrealistic expectations about how long and how much effort it actually takes to build a business. Additionally, I lacked experience using traditional network marketing tools further inhibiting any substantial progress when actively working those opportunities.</p>
<p>Does this mean that I proved that network marketing or MLM companies are hoaxes or scams?</p>
<p>Absolutely not! Both companies still exist today; have excellent product lines and many successful distributors.</p>
<p>What it does mean is that I wasn&#8217;t properly equipped to effectively utilize the available network marketing tools or posses the mindset to see those opportunities through and succeed. Even at the time I quit each venture, I never stopped believing in the companies, products or opportunities.</p>
<p>Over the last 15 years, however, I gained much of the missing background and experience that was previously missing. Today I know any future endeavor in the network marketing business arena will yield the success I always expected.</p>
<p>But what about those people who do not have the right skills or experience?</p>
<p>From my perspective, individuals impacted by or feeling at risk because of the current economic situation can look to network marketing and MLM being viable solutions to their personal economic problems if they understand and act upon the following:</p>
<p>1. It takes time to get the education in both the opportunity, business in general and marketing;</p>
<p>2. It takes time to acquire the appropriate skills with traditional network marketing tools and/or online marketing techniques; business operation, time management, etc.;</p>
<p>3. It takes time to address each of the daily tasks to run business operations (including marketing and sales);</p>
<p>4. You must be patient and persistent in working your business both through the good days and bad ones; and</p>
<p>5. You must maintain realistic expectations for the growth of the business.</p>
<p>Anyone either possessing the appropriate skills or who is willing to work to acquire them as well as adapt to a rapidly changing environment has the opportunity to leverage any of the quality network marketing business opportunities to their advantage. In doing so, they will begin creating a new, independent future for their efforts.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>After watching to Perry Belcher&#8217;s videos on social media marketing, I started to think about several recent occurrences that I had had on various social media sites.  Over the last couple of weeks, I had been approached by a number of people that almost immediately launched into the old &#8220;pitch the product/opportunity&#8221; routine commonly associated with traditional network marketing ventures.</p>
<p>In the first case, I was messaged to follow a URL and watch a video describing a set of solutions to any Internet marketing dilemma I might be facing.  Since I am of the opinion that any information that is truly content-oriented is likely to have something in it that I could find helpful, habit took over and I clicked on the link.</p>
<p>The video started with the narrator giving an overview of the problems that many MLM/DS face and then started the presentation to show the methods that would solve each one of them.  So out comes a graphic of a circular path with the various steps/methods highlighted at varying positions around the path.  What were the methods depicted to solve all the MLM/DS woes?</p>
<ul type="disc">
<li>Making      a list of all the people you know;</li>
<li>Contacting      all those people with a quick &#8220;got something you have to see&#8221; message but      don&#8217;t talk too much!;</li>
<li>Direct      them to either a three-way call with your upline or the video;</li>
<li>Follow-up      and get their feedback and build their excitement &#8230;.</li>
</ul>
<p>And as all of this was unfolding, the narrator was getting more and more excited.  Does any of this sound familiar?</p>
<p>It also seems that one of the major &#8220;direct consumer marketing&#8221; health and wellness companies has a special going where you can enroll for $1.00 through the middle of the month.  No less than seven people have approached me about this special opportunity and the special enrollment deal.  Five of the seven pitched the opportunity directly; one lured me to a webinar that was the standard company, products, opportunity presentation; and the last was actually someone that I had chatted off and on with for several weeks that finally crossed the &#8220;sales bridge&#8221;.</p>
<p>Now I understand that most of their proverbial hearts were in the right place (truly thinking I could benefit from the opportunities) and I am not perfect (I have also pushed the envelope a few times) but these recent encounters definitely struck a certain chord &#8230;.</p>
<p>So you see as they were &#8220;pitching&#8221; their deal, it left me &#8220;twitching&#8221; and not in a good way because it ultimately lead me to be &#8220;ditching&#8221; any thought of their products or opportunity &#8230;..</p>
<p>Just some food for thought &#8230;</p>

<p>BusinessDictionary.com defines network marketing as &#8220;<a href="http://www.businessdictionary.com/definition/direct-selling.html">Direct selling</a> <a href="http://www.businessdictionary.com/definition/method.html">method</a> in which independent-agents serve as <a href="http://www.businessdictionary.com/definition/distributor.html">distributors</a> of <a href="http://www.businessdictionary.com/definition/goods.html">goods</a> and <a href="http://www.businessdictionary.com/definition/services.html">services</a>, and are encouraged to build and manage their own <a href="http://www.businessdictionary.com/definition/sales-force.html">sales force</a> by recruiting and <a href="http://www.businessdictionary.com/definition/training.html">training</a> other independent <a href="http://www.businessdictionary.com/definition/agent.html">agents</a>.&#8221;  Agents are more commonly referred to as distributors in many network marketing-based companies.</p>
<p><strong>Now, is it dead or alive?</strong></p>
<p>Bottom line: it is very much alive but if it is alive &#8211; is that a good or bad thing?</p>
<p>Now that question is definitely complicated and requires a little thought and scrutiny.</p>
<p>To some, especially former, unsuccessful network marketers who are &#8220;born again&#8221; and practicing Internet <strong><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYCfnEmJWYc" target="_blank">attraction and relationship marketing</a></strong>; the answer is a resounding &#8211; probably a little of both.</p>
<p>Why?</p>
<p>Simply because the traditional prospecting and lead generation methods they were taught by the &#8220;old school&#8221; network marketers (warm market prospecting, cold calling, 3 foot rule, etc.) did not work; at least not for them. Many believed the stigma of the &#8220;failed&#8221; old school prospecting methods equate with and therefore characterizes network marketing.</p>
<p>Recently, however, many of those people found the Internet and news ways to develop leads and therefore potential customers or recruits.  Though this seemed to solve the dilemma of the old school methods (at least on the lead generation side), it often left many of the new or re-born Internet network marketers short on person to person contact skills.  This is especially true when trying to apply the <strong>attraction and relationship marketing model</strong> and not simply the &#8220;close the sale&#8221; approach.</p>
<p>In reality, both the traditional and Internet-based prospecting methods should be blended with attraction and relationship marketing in mind and then included as a part of a network marketer&#8217;s toolkit.</p>
<p>Since this is a &#8220;sales model&#8221;, the prospecting/lead generation aspect necessitates marketing to the potential customer until the sale is closed but in this case employing the relationship building component.  At this stage, good to excellent communication skills are required to elevate the potential customer to a regular, repeat customer &#8211; the end game for anyone in sales.</p>
<p>The ability to effectively communicate is a major factor that separates struggling network marketers from those that excel and build successful organizations.</p>
<p>Many struggling network marketers take to the Internet with aspirations of using attraction and relationship marketing to draw leads to court and build relationships in hopes of finding new distributors. Even so, they need to realize that effective personal communication is a must. These skills might best be learned by watching and listening to the successful old school network marketing professionals.</p>
<p>Just remember, it is usually best to work at building the relationship and then introduce the customer to the solution to their problem after a level of mutual trust is established on both sides of the cash register!</p>
