In this video interview, Seth Godin (Permission Marketing, Squidoo and Tribes) provides his unique perspective on the subject of sales and marketing in the Web 2.0 Internet world.

Godin is quick to point out that although the “Web” is one of the more alluring tools for sales and marketing professionals to seek prospects, it is completely different than the “old world” environment they are used to working.

Several of the points he makes in this short video interview include:

Unlike former offline advertising practices, people on the Internet can simply ignore the ads;

The “Web” mandates the use of permission marketing approaches;

Once you have an audience, they can publicize for you through various forms of social media; &

Online marketing and sales pros need to focus on Web 2.0 tools, especially blogs and blogging.

Rather than try and cover all the points Seth Godin covers in the video, just give it a quick watch below and get the insight firsthand …..

Remember, the Internet is a completely different environment and different approaches to sales and marketing are required to succeed in the modern Web 2.0 world ….

Is there really something about Seth Godin’s blog or even the man himself that can be considered marketing magic?

I suppose to the “run of the mill” business person the answer maybe a definitive …. NO!

Why you wonder?

To keep it short, this marketing expert/guru approaches problems and situations by normally thinking “outside the box” and is definitely an advocate of change (if you have any doubts, pick up a copy of his latest book “Tribes” and give it a read!).

So anyone familiar with Seth Godin and his work of marketing magic would expect the content on his blog to deliver his message with an equal tone … and he doesn’t disappoint ….

I have only been following Seth Godin’s blog via an email RSS feed for a few weeks and what I have found is a near-constant (every day or so) flow of marketing magic.

One recent gem delivered fabulous insight about word of mouth advertising (Mechanics vs. intent) and how the desire to deliver the message is more important than the tools facilitating delivery.

Another of his blog entries entitled “Making Commercials for the Web” inspired a re-post on my blog several days ago. Another marketing gem with insight on things to consider when preparing video commercials to post on video sharing sites like You Tube or other venues.

What’s really cool is that most of Seth Godin’s blog posts deliver his marketing magic jewels in 400 words or less … palatable to the busiest of web surfers ….

A few days ago, I encountered a musical performance which instantly imparted a both strong reaction and conjured many emotions. In a word, inspiring … a definite AH … moment.

I truly believe all home business owners should listen closely to Susan Boyle’s dream and hidden message of strength and triumph in the face of the naysayers and cynics …

After watching a video of Susan Boyle’s appearance on the British reality TV show, Britain’s Got Talent, I was completely blown away with the awesome power of the moment. If you have not yet heard of Susan or watched the performance, take a moment and do so now …..

Britains Got Talent 2009 Episode 1 – Susan Boyle (High Quality) @ Yahoo! Video

==========

Unbelievable, amazing, inspiring … so many emotions arose the moment she started to sing and literally rocked the theater (and since then the World!).

Look, her performance was nothing short of stunning, moving the whole audience but that is only the “tip” of the proverbial iceberg.

As she first walks out on the stage, a plain, 47 year old spinster from the north of Britain who declares she wants to launch her professional singing career and equal the achievements of Elaine Paige, “The First Lady of British Musical Theatre”.

The camera shot instantly pans the Judges Panel (Amanda Holden, Piers Morgan, Simon Cowell) then the audience with views of rolling eyes and facial expressions oozing cynicism.

The music cues … a few intro bars play and the first line flows sweetly and powerfully from Susan’s lips … “I dreamed a dream in time gone by“

Again the camera pans and more facial expressions … eyes popping wide open, mouths dropping, a building crescendo of applause culminating in a series standing ovations …

She totally blew the theater away … totally blew the country away … and has now (given the power of You Tube and video sharing) blown the world away …..

But what if she gave into the vibes of the audience before she began …

What if she gave into the cynics and “naysayers” … where would she be today?

Fortunately for Susan, she doesn’t have to worry about the “what ifs” at this point, her dream is emerging from the fog and her quest is being realized ….

Each of us in direct sales, network marketing or MLM is often faced with a host of cynics and naysayers. Many of us typically yields to the criticism and sarcasm, lose sight of the dream and the quest dies ….

My question then to all of home business owners: did you hear Susan Boyle’s hidden message of the dream and answer to her naysayers?

So the next time you run into the cynics, naysayers and such when pursuing your dreams and driving on through quest, think of Susan standing on that stage and answer back with your own song of strength and triumph ….

Targeted MLM Leads – 27 Key Questions to Qualify Them (Guest Article)
By Richard Dennis

When you spend good money for targeted MLM leads, you’d better find out what makes them tick. Talk to them, and find out what is important to them about a “work from home” opportunity. Ask the right questions, and every prospect will tell you exactly what they want.

You need to know the nature of your prospect with regard to MLMs – those emotional aspects that would respond best to your presentation. Become an expert on your prospect. Be a good listener. Talk to your prospects and those who know and have dealth with them. Someplace in there you’ll find the reasons that prospect will join your team.

What are their motivations? What exactly are they looking for in a network marketing opportunity? What are their conditions of satisfaction – what do they absolutely have to have in order for them to make this choice?

Find out their history. Choose from the following questions:

What kind of work do you do?

How many hours a week do you work?

What do you LOVE about your job?

What do you HATE about your job?

What are you really good at?

What will happen if you don’t set up a strong, stable extra income?

What do you do with your free time?

What is the most fun thing you do in a normal day?

What would be your ideal way to make a living?

How do you see yourself being successful in a home business?

Is there any particular kind of opportunity that appeals to you most?

When you’re working, do you feel a need to be around people, or would you just as soon be by yourself?

If you had 2 months vacation and all the money you wanted, what would you do?

How do you like the people you work with?

What problem scares you to death that more money could solve?

If you had all the money you needed, what HUGE problem would go away?

When you find an opportunity that really meets your criteria, how many hours a week could you put into it?

If you had all the TIME in the world to do anything you wanted, what would you do?

Other than money, what are you looking for?

How does your family fit into your home business picture?

What do you want for your own personal growth?

What you want to accomplish in your lifetime?

What could be lurking in the background that could prevent you from following through on starting your own business?

What would it mean to you to help others change their lives

What really excites you in life?

What REALLY makes you angry about your life?

What really, really gets you emotional?

You’ll never use all these questions in one conversation. But depending on how it goes, you can pick and choose different questions from this list. The longer you talk to a prospect, the more you understand which questions you really want that person to answer.

And the longer you talk to targeted MLM leads, the better you’ll get at building relationships with them.

Once you gather this information, you’ll have a sense of their emotional needs. The idea is to present to them and be able to match their nature to the nature of your team. Someplace in these emotional needs, you’ll find the prospect’s main motivation. And that will give you all the clues you need to get into your prospect’s heart and soul and convert them to a productive, successful member of your team.

I wrote this short article summarizing my experiences while prospecting my warm market using the old network marketing model in the past. My intent is to get people to think about their own experience, reflect on it and share it via the comment section at the bottom of the page.

Why?

So we can all learn from each others experiences and ultimately grow wiser in the process.

Thanks in advance for reading, sharing and growing …..

Have you – “Been There, Done That”?

Many of us have been involved with network marketing opportunities that had sound product and comp plans but we often ran into problems building the business. Why? Simply because we were taught to build using prospecting methods now referred to as the old network marketing model or traditional network marketing system.

The key concepts for recruiting and ultimately sales under the old network marketing model revolved around:

1.      Constructing and prospecting your “warm market (family and friends) list;

2. Cold calling mined or purchased opportunity leads; and/or

3.      Employing the 3-foot rule.

How well do those methods work for most people?

I think we have all heard or read the stats … over 95% of the people fail or give up … me included.

Beyond the sponsoring and sales issues with the old network marketing model; the idea of any sort of a “warm market” has always confused me.

Now don’t get me wrong, I realize the list was developed by identifying the people we know and they are warm-blooded creatures (tongue planted firmly in cheek), but something has always still bugged me about that term … “warm market”.

You see, based on my experience, many of the family and friends comprising my warm market failed to meet the “figurative” definition (yes they are warm blooded!) as typically used in the old network marketing model.

I even recall my upline in my first network marketing venture even referring to our family and closest friends as being “hot” prospects.

However, I found most of the members in my “warm market” never really quite fit that definition. As a matter of fact, here is a better description of those in my hypothetical “warm market”:

They were never, ever hot (unless I was a little overly pushy with the pitch);

Initially some were warm (though mostly just being cordial);

It did not take long for the warmth to cool down (again unless overly pushy); and

After a few calls they were almost as cold as phone book prospects!

Sound familiar or are you a three “percenter”?

Let’s open up the dialogue and get the comment conversation flowing ….

After watching to Perry Belcher’s videos on social media marketing, I started to think about several recent occurrences that I had had on various social media sites. Over the last couple of weeks, I had been approached by a number of people that almost immediately launched into the old “pitch the product/opportunity” routine commonly associated with traditional network marketing ventures.

In the first case, I was messaged to follow a URL and watch a video describing a set of solutions to any Internet marketing dilemma I might be facing. Since I am of the opinion that any information that is truly content-oriented is likely to have something in it that I could find helpful, habit took over and I clicked on the link.

The video started with the narrator giving an overview of the problems that many MLM/DS face and then started the presentation to show the methods that would solve each one of them. So out comes a graphic of a circular path with the various steps/methods highlighted at varying positions around the path. What were the methods depicted to solve all the MLM/DS woes?

Making      a list of all the people you know;

Contacting      all those people with a quick “got something you have to see” message but      don’t talk too much!;

Direct      them to either a three-way call with your upline or the video;

Follow-up and get their feedback and build their excitement ….

And as all of this was unfolding, the narrator was getting more and more excited. Does any of this sound familiar?

It also seems that one of the major “direct consumer marketing” health and wellness companies has a special going where you can enroll for $1.00 through the middle of the month. No less than seven people have approached me about this special opportunity and the special enrollment deal. Five of the seven pitched the opportunity directly; one lured me to a webinar that was the standard company, products, opportunity presentation; and the last was actually someone that I had chatted off and on with for several weeks that finally crossed the “sales bridge”.

Now I understand that most of their proverbial hearts were in the right place (truly thinking I could benefit from the opportunities) and I am not perfect (I have also pushed the envelope a few times) but these recent encounters definitely struck a certain chord ….

So you see as they were “pitching” their deal, it left me “twitching” and not in a good way because it ultimately lead me to be “ditching” any thought of their products or opportunity …..

Just some food for thought …
