Thanks for explaining how blog commenting works with the search engines. I had no idea they had so much impact on your rankings. Now I understand a little more on how SEO works on different levels.

I agree with the points you make in this article, Blog commenting done intelligently is certainly a useful means of getting extra traction for the Blog, its readers and your own site too. However, it needs to be done properly as just submitting some junk comment will be highly unlikely to see the light of day with all the spam filters and owner approval of comments used these days.

Jim, you're absolutely correct. Any blog owner should strive to receive valuable comments, because not only do they stir discussions, but they add new RSS feeds - which boosts SEO and can increase your rankings.

And contact blog owners is always a good idea. I'd go a bit further and contact big twitter account owners (5k+) - they can drive some serious traffic.

I agree that blog comments should be insightful, enlightening or entertaining. Blog comments help the blog owner and the person posting as well as other readers of the blog.

Hmm respectful comments - well they can work - but downright rude can work too - in my experience - but not always in the way the poster intended LOL. I do think one of the most helpful things - and many blogger miss it - is to have the subscribe to comments via email option so you can come back to converstation- especially if it just refused to die!
