The Dream of Susan Boyle: Susan Boyle’s Hidden Message for Home Business Owners
Posted Under: Mindset, Opinion, Personal Development
A few days ago, I encountered a musical performance which instantly imparted a both strong reaction and conjured many emotions. In a word, inspiring … a definite AH … moment.
I truly believe all home business owners should listen closely to Susan Boyle’s dream and hidden message of strength and triumph in the face of the naysayers and cynics …
After watching a video of Susan Boyle’s appearance on the British reality TV show, Britain’s Got Talent, I was completely blown away with the awesome power of the moment. If you have not yet heard of Susan or watched the performance, take a moment and do so now …..
==========
Unbelievable, amazing, inspiring … so many emotions arose the moment she started to sing and literally rocked the theater (and since then the World!).
Look, her performance was nothing short of stunning, moving the whole audience but that is only the “tip” of the proverbial iceberg.
As she first walks out on the stage, a plain, 47 year old spinster from the north of Britain who declares she wants to launch her professional singing career and equal the achievements of Elaine Paige, “The First Lady of British Musical Theatre”.
The camera shot instantly pans the Judges Panel (Amanda Holden, Piers Morgan, Simon Cowell) then the audience with views of rolling eyes and facial expressions oozing cynicism.
The music cues … a few intro bars play and the first line flows sweetly and powerfully from Susan’s lips … “I dreamed a dream in time gone by“
Again the camera pans and more facial expressions … eyes popping wide open, mouths dropping, a building crescendo of applause culminating in a series standing ovations …
She totally blew the theater away … totally blew the country away … and has now (given the power of You Tube and video sharing) blown the world away …..
But what if she gave into the vibes of the audience before she began …
What if she gave into the cynics and “naysayers” … where would she be today?
Fortunately for Susan, she doesn’t have to worry about the “what ifs” at this point, her dream is emerging from the fog and her quest is being realized ….
Each of us in direct sales, network marketing or MLM is often faced with a host of cynics and naysayers. Many of us typically yields to the criticism and sarcasm, lose sight of the dream and the quest dies ….
My question then to all of home business owners: did you hear Susan Boyle’s hidden message of the dream and answer to her naysayers?
So the next time you run into the cynics, naysayers and such when pursuing your dreams and driving on through quest, think of Susan standing on that stage and answer back with your own song of strength and triumph ….

Great post Jim!
I watched this video clip 3 or 4 times in a row when I was first introduced to it.
Your take on this is an extremely important and powerful message for home business owners. What is really important to focus on is that cynics, doubters and dream snatchers are put in their place by ACTION…it always speaks volumes more than words.
Very inspiring,
thanks Jim

P.S. What an absolutely awesome example of leveraging the news, very, very well done indeed.

Hello Again Steve,
Her video, the performance and story up and through the performance still tends to resonate through me. Talk about inspiration. To get anywhere significant in life, you have to face the tiger so to speak, conquer the fears and move forward …. It’s only then that dreams truly become realities …..
Thanks for the continuing support and comments ..
I hope all is well in the “Land Down-under” …

What can a network marketer learn from the viral Susan Boyle phenomenon? It’s a story older than the written language: story telling. In this case “the underdog story.” See how I use “stories” or “meta-narratives” to generate a ton of prospects and close deals without selling.

Hi Jim – very cool, inspirational post! There is so much constant negativity flowing through the internet veins now that we need a mainline of the positive to break through the clogs. Dirty laundry’s attraction level always seems to be more appealing to the masses…perhaps because that’s usually all we see and hear. Kudos to you for taking one’s fortune and passing it along to inspire others ~ thanks! klk
Thanks for stopping and commenting .. This was one of those Internet finds that defines a true “Ah ha” moment. Although I related my original post to network marketing – home business (especially thinking about MLM) it really applies to just about anything we undertake in life. Naysayers are everywhere … never, ever let them stand between you and your dream!
Hi Jim
What a great post. I really like your analogy to business where sometimes we are just so quick in our judgement. we judge on the appearance, on the look where what really matters is the content.
Thanks for reminding us that good content is the key to success.

She from the start what she was capable of, which is why she was not deterred in any way from all the snickering in the peanut gallery.
She was clear in want she wanted, she acted on it, and she triumphed. Good for her.
Hi Jim-
I saw this video a few weeks ago and have watched several times. It is amazing how short of a time it took to transform that audience from disbelief to joy. It was very unfair to begin with as the audience judged purely by appearance. Great analogy to compare this video to our business experiences. You are correct that we must believe in what we are doing and have that show through honestly and confidently.
Hi five folks – Ive never seen so much love and attention shown to a unknown singer yes Susan Boyle has definitely given all the other hopefuls who crave the fame she is and has achieved by just being herself and living her dream with her magnificent singing talent its been a pleasure watching all the media attention that seems to have come from no where that is about to make Susan a peoples star in her own right…
All my best to you and your hidden talents

Every time I watch the Susan Boyle clip I get tears in my eyes. The woman judge made a comment about “When you started everyone was against you – but now they’re not.” WHY was everyone rolling their eyes and making fun of her? Yes, the audience came around when she started her glorious song, but it doesn’t speak well of them. Good for Susan. You go, girl.

Hi Jim,
Excellent thoughts. Susan Boyle’s story is certainly amazing, but your way of urging us to connect it to our own lives makes it even more inspiring. Each of us has our talents and our own gifts. Thanks for challenging us to overcome the outside forces and share them with the world.

Jim, great post. Informative as well as thought provoking. Susan Boyle is not only an inspiration, she is an example to all of us. We all have gifts and a dream. We, like Susan, need to go for it with everything we have. Thanks!

Hi Jim, Susan is definitely one in a million. Australia, has tried to copy this and it hasn’t worked, the TV networks tried to hunt/sought out their own ‘Susan Boyle’, they found someone, lovely lady, can sing, not as well in my opinion as Susan.
Susan remains true to herself, I happened upon her interview with Oprah Winfrey, she is such an unassuming woman, loving her newfound fame. In her own words, she has “tidied herself up a bit, just like every other normal woman out there”.
There is a lot we can learn from this kind person.

I appreciate this article. Susan is an inspiration, I think, to us all. Dont judge a book by its cover, beauty is certainly within, and we can all have dreams regardless of our outer appearance. I love her simplicity, and a lot can be gained from this in life.

The video moved me to tears – it was so cool – unfortunately now its all unravelling a bit for her as the pressure really comes on. The Brit tabloids are so cruel I just hope she comes out of it OK
