DoFollow WordPress Plugins: Will Adding a DoFollow Plugin to WordPress Increase Traffic and Comments?

Though I have only been blogging via a self-hosted WordPress blog for a few weeks, I am really enjoying both the blogging process as well as tweaking the blog’s performance by adding plugins and widgets.

One of the adjustments I have been recently considering is the addition of a DoFollow plugin designed to supersede the default NoFollow setting WordPress imposes on the comments visitors post to articles.

Over the last several weeks, a few friends and I have been debating the pros and cons of adding and activating a DoFollow plugin to make the blog more “visitor-friendly”.

The ultimate intent when adding this plugin, is to further enhance both traffic to the blog and blog comments since visitors that comment frequently would get reward with a DoFollow link to their site.

As of today, I located, installed and activated a DoFollow WordPress plugin to return some “link love” (backlinks) to my faithful, commenting followers.

After reviewing seven or eight WordPress DoFollow plugin contenders, I decided on “Lucia’s Linky Love” plugin, which is touted to:

  1. Encourage thoughtful and respectful comments by allowing the blogger to set a minimum number of comments (mine is currently set to 4) after which links associated with future comments become DoFollow giving back a little link love;
  2. Provide link love (backlinks) to regular visitors and followers as reward for being an active part of the conversation;
  3. Provide a buffer to link pirates by only setting DoFollow links on posts within 14 days of when originally published;
  4. Provide additional options regarding the DoFollow and NoFollow tagging if a visitor’s comments are too “spammy”.  (Of course, we always have the power as the “Moderator” and can ultimately use the delete command in extreme cases.)

As always, I strongly encourage my visitors to comeback frequently and read the current posts plus take a few moments to enter the conversation by commenting.

“Lucia’s “Linky Love” WordPress DoFollow plugin is now on duty

Within a few days, you will be rewarded with a little “link love” from me to you for your efforts …

Hi Steve,

TY on the supportive comments! Linky Love has only been active for a day so we’ll see how it goes :)

When I added the widget for the Oprius contact form, the default was too wide so I decreased the pixel size (width to 160 and height to 230 and added a center string as well.

I was also watching one of your videos on R-Pro (on Plugins) and there are a few more I need to check out myself :)

I love learning new things. I will add this to my blog as well. I’m glad to know that this plugin gives me some control plus lets me reward readers and commenters with the link luv. Thanks for the post. Zack

I personally experienced the dofollow wordpress plugin for one of my popular blogs, the result was a drop in page views, meaning the increase in spamming visitors. After getting the point, I removed the plugin and got back to nofollow attribute.

A great idea but with an action field limited to the SEO community… the follow / nofollow isn’t a well-known concept for everybody… But I love the idea !

Thinking about adding do-follow links for our site. How has this helped getting people to your site? Is it worth it? I am part of NextStep Real Estate in Fairhope, AL. http://www.nextstepre.com Thanks!
