Most keyword phrases are highly competitive and difficult to rank for because everyone is using them. Regular keyword phrases have the greatest competition.
Longtail keywords are generally keyword phrases greater than 3 words. Longtail keywords are word phrases that are becoming more prevalent in online internet marketing. Other keyword phrases are over used and longtail keyword phrases offer an alternative at getting more traffic from words that are not used very much globally. Longtail keywords are valuable but not highly competitive which makes them a great resource to use in website meta tags and article writing. There are longtail keyword generators.

Targeting the right long-tail keyphrases is key to SEO success.

Most of the times, companies who do not have a understanding of how SEO work will always go for those one-two words key phrases which are extermely competitive. It is really our job to let them understand long tail keywords with commercial intent are the real gold mine.

Just a quick update from the afternoon of 3/25.

I re-checked the page position for each of the long tail keyword phrases identified above and found things had again changed:

for long tail keyword phrases - the blog post (this one) had moved from Page 7 of Google to Page 1 (7th position);

for long tail keywords page position - the post was up to Page 1 - #1 position (Tweet was in the same position).

Next time I'll make sure to address latent semantic indexing as well .... :)

Yours in success!
